PERFORMING ARTS (MRS STODDEN)
This semester, I would like to welcome the Middle and
Senior students to the Performing Arts sessions. This
term will be very busy, as we prepare for our Kingsley
Park whole school filmed production. This is going to be
presented at the Dromana Drive- In on the Wednesday of
last week of Term 3, Wednesday, September 18th.
Students will spend the first month learning their class’
items, in preparation for filming with a green screen in
our Performing Arts class time. All students will be
required to wear all black clothing, with a touch of
individualism eg (coloured tie, glasses, hat, wig) NB: No
green can be used due to our green screen). Your
assistance to help your child get ready for their outfit
within this first month is appreciated. Students should
have their outfits clearly labelled and placed in a named
bag which will then be stored at school ready for filming
in Week 6 at this stage- TBC.
Middles:
In Performing Arts this term, Middle students will be
participating in our school’s whole school concert production as
part of their music program. They will be exploring how a green
screen works and learning about the safety around filming a
production. Students will further develop their percussion skills
by learning and playing set songs, as well as creating their own
compositions.
Using instruments such as djembes, xylophones, glockenspiels,
hand bells and boomwhackers, students will continue to explore
how to play as an ensemble, following the rhythm and keeping
in time with their group. Students will be given opportunities to
reflect on their performances, expressing how they felt they
performed during and after their item.
Seniors:
In Performing Arts this term, Senior students will also be
participating in our school’s whole school concert production as
part of their music program. Students will explore how a green
screen works, stage presence, production safety around
spotlights and mic equipment and how to follow simple stage
terminology to successfully film their item. They will have an
opportunity to briefly explore the tech software used to record
their items.
Senior students will continue to further develop their
instrumental skills by learning to follow notes to play set songs,
as well as creating their own percussion rhythms and
compositions.
Students will be using cooperation skills to keep in time and play
in unison. They will use instruments such as claves, xylophones,
glockenspiels, hand bells and keyboards for their performances.
Students will learn how to play as an ensemble, following the
conductor’s cues to keep in time to the music. They will be given
opportunities to reflect and articulate the strengths and offer
suggestions for ways to improve viewed performances.
